Keynote Speaker: Kimberly Patton
2010-2011 President of YALSA
Kimberly Patton is the 2010-2011 president of the ALA‘s Young Adult Library Services Association and the Central Library‘s Teen Librarian for Kansas City Public Library. The theme for her presidential year is Think Big. Developed with guidance from the Presidential Advisory Task Force, Patton hopes to spend this year helping YALSA to make a big impact on members' communities, see with a global focus, and provide the tools members need to take their teen library services to the next level. Come listen to her presentation and learn more about YALSA, including current and future initiatives, how you can get involved and what YALSA has to offer you.

I WANT a Teen Book Group! - Listen to the lowdown from experienced teen book group leaders as they reveal the gory and not-so-gory details involved in running a successful teen book group. Amanda Barnhart, April Edwards, and Megan Garrett will share their book group triumphs and mishaps while offering ideas, tips, and resources to start your own.
The Ultimate Duo! School and Public Library Partnerships - School and public libraries need to work together to meet the needs of teens in the community. It‘s not impossible! Come and join us for programming and collaboration ideas that have joined school and public library efforts in reaching our readers. Presenters: Lacie Griffin, Jessica Ford
Booktalking the Best Books for Young Adults - Listen to booktalks and watch book trailers of many of the titles from YALSA‘s Best Books for Young Adults list. A great way to get ideas for talking up YA titles with your teens.
Coming Attractions: Book trailers @ your library—Why should movies be the only thing promoted with a preview? Move over films, book trailers attract readers and have terrific library programming potential. This session will discuss all things book trailer—making them, using them, programming with them. Presenters: Crystal Faris, Cari Albarelli, Erica Voell

Bring a program idea of your own to share and we will discuss all the details of programs that worked for us including supplies, reference materials, and tips on how to make the program run more smoothly. All program ideas shared will be made available online after the workshop. If you have even one program to share, join us and learn something new! Presenters: Linda Bowman, Abbey Ludlow
Booklists Galore - Need book lists? We‘ve got ‗em! Whether you‘re looking for dystopian fiction, YA nonfiction, novels in verse, or anything else, join us for this open house session to mix and mingle and take home a handful of new booklists to help you recommend that perfect title for your teens. Plus, add your own favorite titles to our lists and we‘ll email them out at the end of the workshop.
Name That Book - Team up and test your reader‘s advisory skills by matching vague descriptions of plotlines (like the kind you hear from actual teens) with real YA titles and covers. Discover how good you are at deciphering which books your teens are really after.
